Everyday a miracle happens within the four walls of our churches, that is the Holy Eucharist. The famous American novelist Flannery O'conor was attending a dinner party. Late in the evening, the conversation turned to the Eucharist, and the host of the dinner party informed the others that she thought of the Eucharist as a symbol, “and implied that it was a pretty good one.” At that, O’Connor said in a very shaky voice, “Well, if it’s a symbol, to hell with it.” In every Holy Mass Bread and Wine changes into Body and Blood of Jesus, while the appearences of bread and wine still remaining.
There have been incidents in which the bread and wine takes the shape of Body and Blood. Let us look at some of this
It is believed that miracle occured in 730-750 AD. This was the time when Basilian monks had a monastry in Lanciano. One day a monk was celebrating Holy Mass and was confused about the real presence of Jesus in the Holy Eucharist. He pronounced the words of the consecration of the bread and wine, when suddenly, before his eyes he witnessed the transformation of the bread into Flesh, and the wine into Blood.
In 1920, the Relics of the Miracle were placed behind the new high altar of the church. Since 1923, the flesh has been exposed in the rays of a monstrance, whilst the dried blood clots are contained in a sort of crystal chalice at the foot of this monstrance.
In 1970, at the request of the Archbishop of Lanciano and the Minister Provincial of the Conventual Franciscans of Abruzzo, and with the authorisation of Rome, the relics were submitted to scientists for testing. The results of the scientific tests proved, inter alia, that
The Eucharistic Miracle of Avignon happened in the church of the Holy Cross, home of Gray Penitents of the Franciscan order. On November 30, 1433 Church was exihibiting a consecrated Host for perpetual adoration. After days of rain, the rivers swelled and surprisingly Avignon was submerged. By boat two friars of the Order succeeded in reaching the church where the Holy Sacrament had been left for adoration. When they entered they saw that waters were divided to the right and to left, leaving the altar and the Sacrament perfectly dry. The news spread rapidly and many people and authorities came to the church, singing songs of praise and of thanks to the Lord. Later on , Gray Penitents determined that the anniversary of miracle would be celebrated every year on feast of St.Andrew the Apostle.
The account of this Eucharistic miracle goes back to first centuries of Christianity and is found in writings of the Fathers of the desert who lived in the desert after the example of St.Anthony, Abbot. A monk had doubts regarding the Real presence of Jesus in the bread and wine consecrated at Holy Mass. He would say The bread we recieve is not really the body of Christ but a symbol of that body. The older monks informed him what you are saying contradicts our faith. The acused replied "unless you show me evidence I will not change my mind". The older monks told him "We will pray to God about this mystery and we believe that God will show us the truth"
A week later,on sunday all went to church. At the consecration in place of Host a young boy was seen. When the priest raised the Eucharistic Bread an angel appeared and pierced the boy and when priest broke the Host Blood ran into the chalice. At the communion, the angel took the bloddied particles and bought them to the monks to recieve. At htis doubter cried out Lord I believe that the Bread is your Body and your Blood is in the chalice.Immediately the Bloddied Flesh he had in his hand became the Eucharistic Bread and he communicated reverently
According to date commissioned by King Alfonso IV in 1346, on February 16,1266, in santarem,a young woman overcome with jealousy for her husband consulted a sorceress who told her to go to the church and steal a consecrated Host to use for a love potion. The woman stole the Host and hid it in a linen cloth that immediately became stained with Blood. Frightened by this, she ran home and opened the kerchief to see what had happened. To her amazement, she saw that the Blood wasgushing fromthe Host. The confused woman store the Particle in her bedroom. That night the drawer began to emit brilliant rays of light which illuminated the room as if it were daytime. The husband, also aware of the strange phenomenon questioned his wife, who told him everything.
The next day, couple informed the pastor, who went to the home to remove the Host and return it to the church of St.Stephen in solemn procession, accompanied by many religious and lay people. The Host bled for three consecutive days. It was then placed in beautiful reliquary made of beewax. The Sacred Host is now preserved in an 18th Eucharistic throne above the main altar. Church of St.Stephen is known as the shrine of the Holy Miracle. Thorugh out the centuries, the Host gave new emissions of blood and in some cases various images of our Lord were seen in it. Among the witnesses of prodigy is also St.Francis Xavier, Apostle of indies, who visited the shrine before going on the missions.Every year since the miracle occurred, on the second sunday of April,Precious Relic processed from the home of the couple to Church of St.Stephen. Couple's home became a chapel in 1684.
In St.Hyacinth's church in legnica during Christmas Mass in 2013, a Host accidently fell on the ground during the distribution of communion. It was immediately placed in a container with water and closed in the tabernacle as per the canon law. St.Hyacinth's priest Father Andrzej Ziombrasaid that on January 4th along with other priests, he went to see if the consecrated Host had dissoloved in water after 10 days: "Immediately we noticed that Host had not dissolve and that a red spot covering a fifth of Its surface appeared. We decided to inform the Bishop, who established a special theological scientific commission to analyze the event. We noticed that over time stain on the Host changed color from deep red to red brown. The sample was taken directly by the scientists on 26 January 2014. For the priests the miracle was evident. The commission checked if it was some fungus, mold or another external agent. The Worclaw Forensic Medicine Institute immediately excluded the presence of bacteria or fungi as a cause for the host turning red. A second histopathological analysis pointed out that some fragments seemed to belong to myocardial tissue. An additional opinion was sought using the same samples at the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Szczecin without specifying where the samples came from. The institute used a different analysis method. After the analysis, The Pomeranian Medical University's Department of Histopathology in Szczecin announced that "tissue fragments containing fragmented parts of cross-striatedmuscle"was found in the histopathological image. This is similar to human heart muscle with alterations that often appear during the agony. We have not tested the blood found on the Host, we only know tha human DNA was found". The results of the analysis were presented to the Vatican's Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith which recognised the supernatural nature of the event. It is striking that the examination results were similar to Lanciano Miracle of 700 A.D and other miracles that occured recently".
On October 21, 2006, the effusion of a reddish substance was noted from a consecrated Host during the Eucharistic Celebration at Tixtla, in the Diocese of Chilpancingo-Chilapa. The Bishop of the place, Most Reverend Alejo Zavala Castro, then convened a Theological Commission ofinvestigation and, in October 2009, he invited Doctor Ricardo Castanon Gomez, to take on the leadership of the program of scientific research whose purpose was in fact that of verifying the said event. This event starts in October 2006, when father Leopoldo Roque, pastor of the parish of Saint Martin of Tours, invites Father Raymundo Reyna Esteban to lead a spiritual retreat for his parishoners. As Father Leopoldo and another priest were distributing Communion, assisted by a religious sister who was to the left of Father Raymundo turns towards him with the "pix" containing Sacred particles, looking at Father with eyes filled with tears, an incident that immediately attracted the attention of the celebrant, in the years 1999-2006, ligious sister who was to the left of Father Raymundo, the scientist had conducted some studies on two con- this latter one turns towards him with the "pix" con-secrated Hosts that also bled in the Parish of Saint taining the Sacred Particles, looking at Father with Mary, in Buenos Aires. The scientific research conducted between October 2009 and October2012 came to the following conclusions, presented on May 25,2013 during the course of an international Symbosium held by the Diocese of Chilpancingo, on the occasion of the Year of Faith, and which saw the participation of millions of people coming from 4 continents.
The Holy Face of Jesus first appeared on the host on Nov. 15, 2013, while then-parish pastor Rev. Fr. Thomas Pathickal celebrated morning Mass at Christ the King church, vilakkannur. The parish, also part of the Syro-Malabar Archdiocese of Tellicherry, sent the host to Rome for scientific evaluation. However, as of May 2025, the Vatican confirmed that the miracle is authentic.
When there is a presence of human DNA, we may think that genetical profile can automatically obtained. In all the Eucharistic Miracles scientist were not able to sequence the DNA to obtain a genetic profile. Thelogians say that since Jesus did not have an earthly father, it is not possible to obtain His genetic profile.
